Because if they sell tickets everyone will queue there rather than at the booking office meaning the staff can't check tickets for being tied up in selling them meaning lost revenue for the SPT and more of our taxes will be needed to subsidise the service in a nutshell.

Didnt mean to get off on the wrong foot with anyone. No one likes being spoken to like an idiot, that was the only point I was trying to make.

Would it not be better to have manned stations, and have someone sell tickets on the train? Hardly rocket science.

Pailsy Gilmour Street is a staffed station then again if you think Paisley has visitors you probaly think Gimour street is a quaint seaside platform.

I know, I'm only trying to say though you can hardly blame the staff for thinking you didn't get on at Paisley Gilmour St when there are barriers there.

You've got to mind every day they're dealing with chancers who got on at Ardrossan, Largs, Gourock or wherever and say they got on at Paisley or Hillington or Cardonald.

I know you're not a fare dodger but I'm only saying if you're going jump a wall you can't blame the staff for challenging your story. They're bound to think "oh aye here we go" when you say single from Paisley.

You'll no get banned, I've been getting away with it for years! :?

Glasgowdancer, I think I know what you mean. It was not what was said, she was in the right ,as you knew. It is the MANNER it was said that was wrong. A great big failing in customer service training, I think, that happens far too often here in Glasgow (and other places) by folk working with the public. I know the customer is NOT always right but they DO deserve to be spoken to civilly if we want to encourage them to use whatever facility we are offering. I am not sure if it occurs due to people being in the wrong job and having no pride or enjoyment in their employment or that management don`t understand the importance of adequate staff training. Sad but true, some folk need training in general politeness and exactly what that means and all staff should be "coached" in how to achieve optimum service to the folk they encounter in their job.

Having more than two people serving at the one time in the ticket office for the size of station would be a start and more ticket machines too. I got into Glasgow for free the other day, unmanned station, no conductor and no people on the platform at central and this was about 9:30am.

Where's the barriers are Gilmour street? I didnt notice them last time.

On another subject, Cathcart Circle trains, when are we getting new ones, they are minging. How come the Dumbarton trains are much nicer and that goes thru more hellholes??? ( I'm anex dumbartonian so can slag it  )

Scotrail/SPT would get a helluva lot more people using the service if it was easier to buy a ticket/cleaner/better customer service.

I have on the very........very odd occasion, been on one of those newer trains on the Cathcart circle. I wish it was going the long way to Mt Florida for me to get the benefit.

No but I know what you mean. You also need a set of ladders to climb from the platform onto the train.

I think that the Cathcart trains are due for replacing in 2009/2010. The reason Dumbarton trains are nicer in some respects is that the journeys are much longer so the trains need to have toilets etc. They are renewed in a cycle, and thus somewhere will always have the oldest trains and it makes sense to have them on the shortest routes.

Record passenger figures are at odds with that. I've also got to say that with the Squire regime trains and stations are much cleaner and free from graffiti than the environment outside the station. Obviously ScotRail can only keep things clean to a certain degree at any given time since it is the travelling public who leave trains filthy with chip poke wrappers, wee bottles of lucozade, vomit/pish and shitty feet up on the seats.

The current security situation and DFT guidance affects the bins somewhat.
