Right, I've got the maps, after half a day at the Mitchell and the Archives, and they seem to suggest that the Molendinar doesn't go through Royston! It looks like a tributary, probably the Gadsburn. My suggestion would be to start at Jail Square (now Jocelyn Square) at the foot of the Saltmarket, site of former public hangings, and inspect the outfall where the burn reaches the Clyde (opposite the foot of Mart Street), then expedite (or whatever the verb from expedition is) to the source of the Molendinar. This would take us from the known to the unknown, the exoteric to the esoteric (as it were).
It's about three miles, but a twisty three miles, so I guess we need to allow at least three hours for this. And we can get the 36 bus back from Hogganfield Loch to the city centre. Looking forward to seeing you all, including the Jim the Artful Dowser, Graeme Positioning System, Crunchy Mint and all the other flaneurs and flaneuses.
Best, Ronnie
