Robot browsers ...

Postby Ronnie » Tue Feb 03, 2009 8:55 pm

Just a wee thought. I notice from the front page ...

Registered users: Fossil, Gigabot [Bot], Google [Bot], Ronnie, Shardonnay, tobester, UG, Yahoo [Bot]

... that there are four humans, three robots and a tobester browsing the forums at this precise moment. Is this some kind of record?

..and there's a couple more regular bots (Ask Jeeves, etc) that were having their tea at the time.

I remember them showing up last time Shazza did an upgrade, but they disappeared after a few days, so I presume there's a setting somewhere.

There's an adbot named marco posting away merrily this morning.
I like him ... He says "Okie Dokie!"

Are these automated posts then? I thought they were just posted by some salesman chancing his arm on any forums he could find. Either way I can't imagine they get much of a response from this sort of advertising.

I'm presuming it's a bot .. the ads are from South Africa, what are the chances of a Springbok stumbling on our little arena?

The apple ads appear on here and other forums quite often, seen it a few times on bloodbus (bus forum!!) just some sad loser with no life wasting his time. Never been kissed by a girl and only ever slept with his mum ::):

the bots listed are just indexing forum content for search engine - so not harmful other than eating our bandwdth :D

you are right they can be hidden, just need to find the setting that was changed...

apple ads canned.

think it might have been a code hack to hide the bots... cant immediately see a handy hiding setting.

(I kinda like seeing the bots :? )
