Moderating

Postby Delmont St Xavier » Wed Aug 06, 2008 10:24 am

Scratching my head and wondering why some of the posts are being 'locked' all too abruptly. I have seen some boring topics, linger on and on and on, whilst others are cut short (albeit the quality and content was boring) but at what point do you censor or put something out of its misery?

I am not a regular poster, but I am a regular viewer as I read many entries on many of the subjects but over a course of time, I have come to the conclusion that some of the moderators here are a little too 'trigger happy' with the lock function. I wholeheartedly agree that anything that is vile, racist or bigoted should not be allowed on here but the 'Somerfield' posting for example was hardly exciting (good for insomniacs) and closed with a 'big yawn'.

I understand it's not my ball and therefore the owner or their associates can do what they want, but some of the recent lock downs are beginning to make me question the integrity of the forum. Shame too, because this is one of the better boards!

It was a bit heavy on allegation and a bit light on proof. I liked the demolition suggestion but I doubt the residents in the flats above would agree.

I've no problem with reasonable moderation and even locking when required, what I object to is the complete vaporization of threads for no given reason (Lorraine Kelly threads seem especially prone recently!).
It reminds me of Stalin and his airbrushing of history and it's not what I've come to expect from what I regard as an educated, humorous and generally tolerant board.

I hope nobody is vaporising LK on my watch!! :D

Just found what fred you were on about. Naked LK is fine, pointless forum debates on sectarianism that ultimately end in a rammy EVERY time are not OK.

Cheers, Tobes.

It's the outcome of the annual HG Equal Opportunities review, at which it was noted that blokes with moustachioed avatars and lampost-photographing East Coasters were woefully under-represented in the moderating community.

LP was a shoo-in, but it came down to me or MacOtheIsles for the other position. I called heads on the toss of the coin.

Josef!

Well - all I can say is that the best man won. Congratulations to you, and LP, on your elevation to the upper house from where you will; I am sure; dispense justice, retribution, fire and brimstone with customary aplomb.

Sincerely, etc,

Cheers folks. Never underestimate the power of carefully directed bribery. And photographs of lamp posts.

Now off to be tyrannical and bad and stuff...
