Times of postings in HG

Postby Nuff Sed » Sun Apr 01, 2007 8:00 pm

Where does HG get its time from? My Win XP correctly advanced by 1 hour to BST last weekend, but HG seems to think its still wintertime.

Is the only fix to amend the time zone in the profile?

Yes, I had the same problem last year.

You need to change the time zone in your profile.

I've just checked again, and now it's correct! It seems to be erratic. Any thoughts, anyone

Base timezone is GMT ... after that its up to each forum member to set what timezone they are in by modifying their profile.

Hi, Sharon and cheesylion. The situation seems to be a wee bit more complex than that, at least in my case (I'm using Win XP Pro SP2 on a standard Intel-based PC clone, my timezone is correctly set to GMT, and my system clock advanced by 1 hour to BST last weekend without any help from me).

I said earlier that the situation was erratic. What I should have said was that I couldn't see any pattern, but I think I can see one now - it depends on whether I'm logged in to HG or not!

Take, for example, the 4th (and currently the last) post in my 1st April thread about Google's free wifi broadband.

http://www.hiddenglasgow.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=5869

That's the post where HollowHorn says "Shit! it's after midnight!"

If I view this post when I'm logged in to HG the post time is indeed
Mon Apr 02, 2007 12:53 am

but if I view it before I log in to HG the time is shown as
Sun Apr 01, 2007 11:53 pm

This situation is repeatable on my PC. It looks as if viewing the site without logging in causes all post times to be shown as GMT, whereas after logging in they will be shown in BST (of course, in the winter there is no problem because timezone time and local time are the same).

Anyone else seeing this?

HG isnt a psychic system!!
You need to be logged in before you will have access to your individual timezone settings...otehrwise it will be GMT.

The time on the server for the site is GMT and doesn't change with Daylight savings times, You have to tell it to be +1 hour in your profile for the times to match up properly.

If your not logged in or are a guest who hasn't joined the times will be wrong but only between March and October.

Thanks, folks. The part I hadn't understood was that the HG server time is always GMT.

All clear now.
