Another forum I frequent created some code which only allowed you to edit until the next post in a thread was made. Thus you could correct typo's etc, but could not change your post once a second post was made, thus meaning that replies made sense. Clarifications are posted in a new post.

That's one option, the option I am going for will be to allow editing for a fixed time period, which will allow people to add to or correct their posts while it's still sensible to do so. So that when they are later having an evening of drunken beligerance they can't go back and edit everything they've ever posted... which is what seems to have happened twice in a week!

I have done many edits months and sometimes years after the original post, mainly to fix broken links or images. I'd seriously miss the abilty to housekeep my own posts.

And the edit function is back.... so you can now edit posts for up to 24 hours after they have been made.
