There's another short video of the TSR2 in which the commentator tells us that on a supersonic test flight, it comfortably outran a Lightning which had both burners of its Avons lit, despite running on one engine.

Vulcan faces destruction

'Vulcan bomber costs £4600 per hour for fuel'

Isn't it amazing that in this day and age we can all run our own jet fighter/bomber for the same weekly cost as a Ford Fiesta?

I'd take that Fiesta back to Uncle Henry if I were you. Sounds like it's running a bit rich :P

I don't drive Bridge, but I still wince every time I walk past the price board at the garage.

Beautiful Big Aircraft and if I remember rightly it's based at Bruntingthorpe. I went there at the opening for the QRA Hanger when they were doing reheat runs up and down the Runway with the Lightning they have. Unfortunately the Vulcan was away at an Aitshow. I was seriously disappointed at not seeing it so I hope it does stay alive and flying.

It went to Lynham for a while, I think, and is now based at Doncaster's Robin Hood airport which used to be a Vulcan base during the Cold War. They're struggling to raise the funds necessary to keep it going but it has made a number of airshow appearances this year.

Vulcan to the Sky

RAF Leuchars added to XH558's* display schedule

Hot on the heels of yesterday's announcement of a display at Dawlish, we are pleased to announce RAF LEUCHARS have now confirmed booking XH558* for a display on Saturday 10th September.

There are no plans to land, but we are simply delighted to be able to take part in this - Scotland's premier aviation event.

Last night on BBC1 "Britain's Hidden Heritage" was worth watching just to see John Sargent's excellent report on the history of the Vulcan.

I saw that by accident as it were, and rather enjoyed it.

From not sunny Glasgow the other week, the boat plane turned up to land (well, to water). A less spectacular plane than the Vulcan, but an insanely steep descent:

I imagine it takes a wee bit of training to try that and not become an interestingly mangled charred riverside art installation.
All the world seems in tune on a Spring afternoon, when we're poisoning pigeons in the park.
