Wasn't it just a hotel, and the station mentioned in the "St. Enoch Station Hotel" was the building we still have in the middle of the (diminishing) square? Or was there another station below the hotel too?

Was anyone else at the photography presentation by Douglas Annan in Hillhead Library during the West End Festival? His family has been running a photography business since the good ol' B&W glass plate days and he'd revisited as many places as he could to compare old photos with new. The hotel was part of his talk and he said that all of the rubble was taken down to the river and used to fill in the bit of land where the SECC now stands, so I guess if you liked it that much you could go visit its grave and pay your respects VT!

Hi Scott,

The hotel was part of a station as important as Central or Queen Street Station:

Some maps of the SECC site still show the substantial quay walls of the buried Queen's Dock - enough exists above ground , like the pumping house and boundary walls / gateposts to make a visit worthwhile.

Ah ok I see.

Does anyone else know anywhere online I can find the old picture of the subway being built below the remaining station building? It's amazing - the building's held up on what looks like nothing thicker than a few girders at ground level and everything below has been dug out to put in the tunnels.
