A walk around Partick...

Postby deebers » Sun Sep 12, 2004 5:20 pm

I thought some of you may be interested in these pix.

My main ambition was to take a walk to the derelict site which I think *used* to be a scrapyard in Partick (behind the Safeway near Partick Train Station).

There were so many interesting things lying about in that site (which had "No Tresspassing" plastered all round it, to which, of course, I paid no attention).

I could have climbed down to the old railway area from Partick Central Station, but wasn't sure I could get back up. May try it in dryer weather sometime.

We then photographed the old Station and even took a peek through the letterbox! Then went to the old Mill flats, and the rest you can see for yourself!

Here they are. Hope you find some of them interesting :)

Funny, I did almost exactly the same walk a couple of weeks ago, so my pics are almost identical. Was there a strange woman of oriental appearance peering suspiciously at you from a caravan up near where the present railway line goes over? (just at the expressway). Anyone know what the building in pic 20 was originally? It's now Social Work premises (and who the hell thought that modern extension was appropriate???).

Really? It was quite an interesting walk actually! And no - there was no strange woman in a caravan :)! ;)

Pic 20 was Partick Police Station.

There is a thread about it here:

The gate? Where? There was an entrance via the old scrapyard...

There were neds watching every move we made, so we didn't venture too far. I think I'll go back another time.

I'm gonna have a look at the old Partick West station next.

Hi Stephen,

The station you see in the pic is the old Partick Central Station, you can see whats left of it in Deebers's pics,

Deebers,

Very nice pics! Well done! :-)

I think just after it closed Duncan had a quick look at that location as well:

It was Partick Central, pictured in, apparently, 1969 - five years after the
passenger line was closed, hence the grass on the station platform.
