Hello everyone - It's my first post on here so please be gentle !! I have searched my question and couldn't find anything so here goes....

My Portaflash Flash Meter covers 50 to 400 film speed
The weekend coming I have planned to do some studio photo's for a friend using 3200 film speed
Is there a way to correctly meter or is it 'trial and error' ?

Many thanks for anyone help

Andy

Hi Andy, welcome to HG :)

I don't use flash often enough to know what I'm talking about, but I do remember reading about the "guide number" which is an indication of the power of a flash unit. There's a brief explanation here >> and it appears you need to consider the inverse-square rule.

That's great - I'll have a good read through and give it a go

Thanks

3200!! The grain on that will be huge - I remember doing gigs with 1600 film and having golfball sized grain

It's many years since I've worked in a studio, but I think I'm right in suggesting that you should set the speed on your meter to 400 and close your aperture by 3 stops from that suggested.
I can't think why anyone would ever want to use fast film in a studio though.
