Derelict buildings around Glasgow

Postby Digitographer » Sat Dec 27, 2008 11:26 am

I'm hoping to start a photographic project focussing on derelict and decaying buildings and places - only problem is, I don't know where to find these places. Anyone know of any old derelict buildings in or around Glasgow? The only two I can think of are the old seminary in Cardross and the old Law Hospital in Carluke. Any other ideas or suggestions gratefully received :)

So why bother.

Here's a list of Coia buildings. See if you can get to them before the tims demolish them.

"I before E, except after C" works in most cases but there are exceptions.

I'm planning a trip to Cardross - incredibly ugly concrete thing that it is, :). Still want to go see it, though.

I also had an interesting trip to the old Glasgow Zoo today. Now very derelict and being overtaken by vegetation, it was more interesting to see than when it was a working zoo. Will post some photos later.

And thanks for the Coia list links :)

You'll be surprised how un-ugly it is.

A claim made of much of the brutalist sixties concrete stuff was that it would age well. I never believed it, but am now starting to.

I've seen plenty of photos of it and really want to visit the place - it's the fact it's made of concrete that I consider ugly. What state is the place in these days? The most recent photos of it I could find today were a couple of years old.

Not much left of St Peters now, inside was mostly made of wood which is mostly gone in the main building, but its an awsome place to visit, its huge in size and the fact its concrete doesnt spoil it. The female/nuns building is well dodgy inside and the inside of the teaching block is mostly colapsed but at least you can get an idea of the amount of wood that was used elsewhere.

There are loads of other places thats derelict but if you search the net you will find enough to keep you going for months

I discovered today, by chance, that there are four old streets opposite Shawfield Stadium which are being demolished. Turns out it was a great place to take some photographs.

Did you go round to St Margaret's Church on Polmadie Road?

I passed it but didn't have time to stop there as well - but I will go back again.
