Glasgow Doors Open Day Photograph Competition 2008.

Postby cumbo » Tue Aug 19, 2008 8:35 pm

For all you fantastic photographers on Hidden Glasgow.

Competition
Have you ever walked through a doorway and wondered about the many people who have passed that way before you?

We thought it would be a great idea to try and capture some of the evocativeness of the thousands of doors in Glasgow! Every door tells a story - what story would you like to recall? Take a digital image of the door that inspires you most. The photos will be judged by a mixed panel and the finalists will be exhibited during the Doors Open Day weekend.

The first prize will be a £50 voucher with a book, second prize £30 voucher with a book and the third prize will be a £20 voucher with a book. All prizes are courtesy of Borders Bookshop.

Terms and conditions and how to enter the competition are here. Final date for entries is August 30.

Sounds interesting!

The terms and conditions didn't come across though - a bit of hunting turned them up here.

I'll definitely be taking part :)

There's also a similar competition running as part of the Merchant City festival. Unfortunately, the deadline for entries is tomorrow (Monday)

See http://www.merchantcityfestival.com/

MY MERCHANT CITY FESTIVAL - PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION

My Merchant City is a new photographic competition for this year’s Merchant City Festival. Run by UZ Events and the Merchant City Community Council, it is aimed at people who live or work in Glasgow’s Merchant City.

We are looking for photographs that reveal aspects of the Merchant City or present a personal take on the character or nature of the area. It is open to anyone, regardless of experience or camera format; however we require people to provide their entry as a print. The print is to be no smaller than 6in by 8ins and no larger than A3.
The deadline for prints to be delivered to the UZ Events Office (125 to 129 High Street) is Monday 1 September.

The photographs will be judged by a panel including representatives from the Merchant City Community Council and displayed during the Merchant City Festival within Merchant Square. The overall winning photographer will receive a complimentary framing service courtesy of Merchant Gate Gallery, 111 Saltmarket.

For more information, please contact UZ Events on 0141 552 6027.

The judgement deadline has passed - the Ts & Cs say the 10-20 finalists will be notified by email and on the website. I can't see anything on the website yet - has anyone been told they're through?

Just got a wee phone call there, apparently I've won second place. They've been late with the judging. I'm going to have to pop down to St. Andrew's in the Square now.

Quite chuffed.

Well done pj.The company I work for sponsers the Scottish Press Award and as an employee we are allowed to enter a photograph. When profesional photographers choose my photo of the Speed cats at the boat fesival on the Clyde it realy did give me a buzz. . Part of the prize is a day out with the Evening Times on an asignment.
Thank you. And why not.

Sure can, it's this one of Stow:

Not my favourite, but the one I thought had the best chance. Figured the judges wouldn't be into manky flaking paintwork in the same way that I am.

Absolute cracker PJ! I like it more so because it isn't an obvious subject.
