Highburgh Road Telephone Exchange - photos needed, please.

Postby Jimmy Dell » Sat Aug 16, 2008 9:06 am

Firstly, hello to everyone on the site from me. :)

Normally, I would never entertain the thought of asking for help from people who don't know me, but the various car forums I frequent haven't been able to assist me so I thought I'd be a little cheeky (needs must and all that) and ask on here as to whether any kind soul would be willing to help me out by taking a few high resolution pictures of a building.

The building in question is No.24 Highburgh Road Google Maps link and is a former telephone exchange designed by Leonard Stokes with Colin Menzies that has now been converted to flats/apartments.

The photographs are intended to be used in a non-profit book on the architecture of Leonard Stokes that a friend of mine is writing, so any pictures will need to be free of copyright issues and/or any person taking the pictures is willing to allow them to be used in the book. You would, of course, be credited in the book for any pictures used.

I can understand if people are a little suspicious of new user asking for photographs of residential properties so I've posted a link to Scoobynet (a Subaru owners website) below where I've made the same request to demonstrate I'm not looking to turn the place over!

Many thanks in advance for any assistance offered. :)

I'm doing a PhD at the university so I can take some when I'm in on Monday if you like? Any particular kind of shots in mind? Are you just looking for someone to take shots of the outside and send them to you, or do you want someone you can let in to take photos of the interior?

Scott,

That would be very much appreciated if you could take some photos for me.

In terms of actual shots, I'm just looking for some general exterior angles of the building showing as much of it as possible, rather than focusing in on any particular detail/feature.

Many thanks

Here are a few, and the rest are on my flickr page (see my sig). I think it was a real shame about the sky; one point of view was quite dramatic but from the other side it was just dull :(

They are spot on - thank you once again for your help, Scott. :)

Can you let me know how you would like your name referenced in the book so I can pass that onto my friend.

Excellent. I lived in this road many years ago so this brings back memories.

Nice photos Scott - well done for helping Jimmy's friend out.

I can remember the conversion of the building from defunct telephone exchange into flats.

Hats off to whoever made the original design blend in to the local norm. Not many exchanges look as good :D

Isn't there a celebrity football pundit living there? The one I'm thinking of used to present a chat-show-style TV program (possibly one which evolved from the radio?) at night, and he'd sit on a couch while he was talking to guests.

Don't know about footie pundits, but I've got a feeling the fragrant Wendy Alexander lives there. A few months ago, when she was having one of her many "spots of bother" and the press was camped outside her home, I'm pretty sure that was the building seen on TV reports.
