Don't know if anyone's came across this site before. The colour photos from World War 1 are stunning. Some are just coloured postcards but others are amazing.

Please be aware if you go into other sections of that site there are some pretty horrific photos. They show the photos that were never shown at the time.

From another part of the site, here's a couple of soldiers being humiliated for straggling and deserting.

Check out Frank Hurley's amazing pictures too, but as I say, if you're squeamish, stay clear of the forbidden war pictures.

Thank's for the WW1 site link, Schiehallion. Very interesting stuff.

This portrait by Bill Brandt was very important in my life. Titled FRANCIS BACON ON PRIMROSE HILL, I saw it some time in my early teens. I think it must have been in the NME. At the time I had never been to London or even particularly had much idea of who Bacon was (or even what his paintings looked like).

However, the winter bleakness of the landscape and sense of sheer tension in both the framing and the expression of the subject's face had a powerful effect on me. It made me realise that photography could do and say things with as much gravity and complexity as painting (ironic as it's subject was a painter who used photography a lot as his inspiration. Not that I knew this at that time). Basicaly it made me want to pick up a camera and attempt to make pictures like this.

Eventually I realised that there was no point in trying to imitate another man's style, and I'd have to find of of my own, but this photograph above all started me on the road to image making, for better or worse...

The first three photos posted are fucking awful, Sharon. The third is an especially bad example of HDR.

The motelfetish ones are great, however, as are the Craig McMaster ones which we've probably all seen already, though.

Yes, by all means post it. And by all means post an opinion if you have one.

I'm glad there are so many people here to remind me that I'm allowed to post mine...

Well said BW and even if you don`t like it, post it anyway, coz someone will see another slant to it.
