Wedding Photography...help needed!

Postby gordon » Sun Apr 24, 2011 11:21 am

Hi guys,

My fiancé and I are getting married in June next year, and are currently wading through the interminable number of photographers, caterers etc., to cut a long story short, we're on the scrounge!

Basically, we're a bit horrified at the kind of prices for photography that we're finding, but we're not sure if that's par for the course of if we're just looking in the wrong places. Ultimately we're looking for something that's a bit removed from the traditional 'wedding photography' guff, but it's proving difficult to find someone that fits in with what we're wanting. Sounds awfully wanky, but we're looking for something a bit 'artier' and alternative. Yes, very wanky in fact!

So, can anyone on here recommend any photographers that are a little bit different? I guess we're not really looking for wedding photographers per se.

And before you ask, I've searched the boards already... :?

Ta muchly in advance!

Gordon, one of the guys who runs http://www.wix.com/lenscurve/lenscurveweb is a friend of mine, and really is very good.

Not sure of prices, but he does have a kind of "out there" attitude to his pics, as you'll see from the galleries!

Congratulations btw!

Thanks guys...will investigate!

Apologies Josef, I had some essential off-book work to carry out in Bolivia, terrible wi-fi facilities...

I suggest these words of wisdom.

When asked to take wedding photos. Just say

NO !

Wise words indeed.

Ones I have chosen to emulate at least twice now.

I only do wedding photos on the understanding that the happy couple engage a professional beforehand. I'm a wildlife photographer and they'll get candid shots of the guests if that's what they want, but I need a professional there to work the crowd first. This weeds out the ones who are trying to save a bob or two. In fact it weeds out nearly all of them.

Perth in Australia? Handy location.
