Amazing exhibition at Holyrood - unfortunately finished today

Photographs by Herbert Ponting of Scott's Terra Nova expedition of 1910-13 and Frank Hurley's photpgraphs of Shackleton's 1914-16 Endurance ordeal.

I genuinly had a lump in my throat listening to the commentary for this photo:

Ponting had taught the Pole Team photography , and they recorded the above image after finding that they had been beaten to the Pole by Amundson.

Look at the facial expressions and postures.
