Jai for me. But it really depends on who you're talking to.

The very annoying "use" as in "Are use guys going to be in the pub later" and the probably even more annoying "ano" instead of "I know" which appear on certain social networking sites on a depressingly increasing basis.

A former colleaque of mine used to do this whenever he was addressing a group, and I always bleated like sheep(Use, as in ewes) when he did, everyone else soon cottoned on and would join in he still did'nt get the joke but the rest of us would have sheepish grins. :)

It's very common over here and is something you hear all the time.

'You' needs a plural, and Standard English is the worse for not having one.

Having said that, anybody who spells it 'use' needs telt. Sorry, told.

English may be unique in not having a plural 'you.' Gaelic may not have a word for television but it does have a plural you eg Ciamar a tha THU? Ciamar a tha SIBH?

It's not so much the spoken word that gets on my nipple ends, but the typed version "use" rather than, say, "youse" or even "you's" It's the blatant disregard of the fact that its the plural (albeit non-existent) of "you" that annoys me.

That alone has to be reason enough for everyone to be compelled to learn Gaelic.

I had always understood "You" is both singular and plural. See also: OED for definition.

It is. Thus LP's comment.

I have always thought it a bit odd that people over here use the word mineral in relation to soft drinks.

I would imagine that's because gassy soft drinks are a development of the old "aerated mineral water" products.

Has anyone noticed that a lot of American English words like "gotten" are starting to creep into everyday speech these days. I've heard people talking about "the elevator" instead of "lift" - any other examples?
