Hyndland Cobblers!

Postby Bridie » Mon Aug 31, 2009 6:07 pm

I've searched on site till I can search no more :)
I understand the need to search onsite I do ! :)
However...
What was the wee shop/cabin just before the bridge in Hyndland originally built for? I think I have memories of a cobblers.

It was a security company before it closed. Can't remember what it was before that, but I don't think it was a cobblers. The valuation rolls in the Mitchell could tell you.

Are we all talking about the abandoned building on the Broomhill side of the bridge?

Yes

Someone told me that there was a fire engine there today - got me thinking about the origin of the cabin.
I remember it at least 35 years ago, it always seemed a strange place to have a cabin/shop.

Anyone recommend a cobbler? I've tried Merkland Street and Calder Street but I'm not happy with either.

I have used the guy on Calder Street and he did a great job renovating a pair of tackety boots , but come to think of it he might have outsourced that job?

I don't know if the Cobbler at the Battlefield Road end of Homelea Road is still in business? He was pretty good.

there's was a cobblers on Olympia st Bridgeton, don't know if its still there. My last visit to it was 3 years ago a few months befor my grandfather passed away.

It was the first shop that you come to at the station, certain there was a barber's next door to it as well

I've only used them for the "leather repairs, including handbags and saddlery" bit, but they were good at that and substantially cheaper than Timpsons, etc.

It's still there, I got him to fit a new watch battery yesterday for a very reasonable price :) He does personalised mugs and other stuff too.

I hope you're not suggesting that Dex has Camel toes....

Well, actually, I'm hoping that you are.
