STV sues ITV for £12M ITV fight

STV yesterday launched a £12 million legal battle with ITV to protect its "sovereignty" in the Scottish market, opening up another front in an increasingly bitter struggle between the broadcasters.
STV is angry about the way ITV has sold new media rights, notably video on-demand services, to BT Vision and Virgin Media.
This has allowed ITV-branded services to be shown to Scottish customers without the explicit agreement of STV, it said.

Nobody wants to advertise on the crap programmes STV make and because they don't have advertising revenue they can only make crap programmes.

They might as well accept most of the country has Freeview/ Freesat and doesn't need STV's output.

Michael Grade says ITV is the victim in battle with STV

ITV boss Michael Grade has claimed his company is the "victim" in the ongoing dispute with STV.
The Scottish broadcaster has dropped some network programmes, including The Bill and Doc Martin.
Relations between the firms are now badly strained with both suing each other for more than £30m.
Mr Grade told Westminster's Culture Committee this was a sad state of affairs and said STV was not adhering to its contact with the network.
ITV is suing STV for £38m, saying it is in breach of network agreements by dropping programmes. STV has counter-sued for £35m.
STV claims it is owed money by ITV and is also unhappy about promotional plugs for some of ITV's other businesses, such as the website itv.com, during programmes.

Top dramas on the way back as STV ratings hit all-time low

Published on 28 Dec 2009

STV has admitted it was wrong to axe popular dramas such as The Bill and will bring them back to Scottish screens in the New Year.
Rob Woodward, the station’s chief executive said he made a “major mistake” by cutting mainstream programmes in favour of content dubbed “shortbread TV”, according to reports.
The police drama as well as the popular show Doc Martin starring Martin Clunes were among the primetime ITV shows cut in January – a move which STV denied was to save money.

Time’s up for The Hour as flagging chat show axed

In one sense, STV could be applauded for ugving a break to a non-presenter, Michelle McManus, whose strength was her ordinariness, but when she was paired up with the sharp, cynical comedian Tam Cowan, viewers found the mis-match entertaining for all the wrong reasons.

This week, for example, Cowan cracked a gag about how to get your house clean for free: "Phone the cops, tell them there’s been a burglary and they’ll dust for fingerprints." McManus looked irked, and actually apologised to the guest, actor Andrew Lancel.
