I just randomly recollected someone telling me about a rooftop garden somewhere in glasgow City Centre ( Near Union St IIRC? ) that, although hidden, was easilly accessible if you knew where it was.
Supposedly there was simply a doorway at street level, leading to a staircase that took you to the very top of the building.

Sorry I can't be more specific - bot does this ring any bells?

if there was, you'd maybe be able to identify it on the aerial map book? there's the big gardens on the Abbey National building, but that's obviously not it

You could also have a look from the viewing tower on top of the Lighthouse building, which has a good view over Union Street.

Just had a look at the arial book of Glasgow and I don't see any roof gardens in the city centre other than the Abbey National building. The only other possibility might be the Clydesdale Bank building on the corner of West George St and Buchannan St, but I think thats a courtyard with a couple of trees in it.

...sorry

Maybe it's an *underground* rooftop garden ...

... or maybe "partial memory" = flashback?

It may not even have been a garden as such - maybe more a "Wee bit with some benches and a view".

Kat tells me that the "zoo" over near Trongate might have had one?

Actually... It might well BE the viewing tower at Lighthouse.
Think I'll check that out at some point.

all this top of hidden rooftop gardens keeps making me think of a bit in The Simpsons: Hit and Run, where there's a really tranquil garden on top of the Kwik-E-Mart. You've got to float up on a steam vent to reach it...

Could be Greek Thompsons church. There's a balcony or something accessible from the lane or the street that runs down the side of it (Pitt St.?). It has wonderful views of the Clyde and the whole south side. Something was being built on the top of Habitat which would have obscured the view but construction has been stopped for a while now, maybe someone complained.

You know, i think this rings a bell with me. Many moons ago i recall an ex of mine taking me up to a place that sounds like what you are describing. This was probaly 10 years ago now, and I didnt really know Glasgow, so locations and buildings didnt really mean anything.

But I do recall looking south, so i might be recalling what DVF has just mentioned.

That's what i thought it might be. I remember reading that office workers used to go and sit up there on their lunch breaks. I tried to access it years ago but it had been fenced off. It's accessible again now though as part of the Pinnacle building.

I was trying to work it out t'other night. The only picture i could find of the rear of the church is this one:

I can't remember if the area above Habitat joins onto the back of the church just below the pillars, creating a wide open space (which is practically unnoticable, unless you knew it was there). I'm sure the access steps were at the right hand side of the church though. :?:
