I was passing by this evening and noticed the front of the building (where it was covered by the County Bingo sign) is black. Is that fire damage or was the bingo frontage added before the rest of the building was cleaned?

Top of the corner tower/rook has been lost :|, hardly worth saving the rest.

Me thinks the whole lot will be flatend as first anticipated. Sad days indeed. :(

Did anyone manage to get a photo of the frontage with the corrugated iron taken off, but when there was more left to see of the upper portion than this ?

Evening Times: Going, Going Gone

He said that while public safety issues were paramount, the building had "resolutely failed to collapse" into the street in the three weeks that Eglinton Street was closed. "There would have been plenty of time, if the will had been there, to have propped up the frontage while the rest of the building was demolished, and retain that for any future redevelopment, as has been done successfully elsewhere."

Nice pic - what a shame that the first time that facade sees the light of day in 46 years is when it's smoke-blackened and awaiting demolition...

Incidentally, the film "His First Command" was released in the US in late 1929, so that would put the first pic at 1930.

It's astonishing how the addition of the two corrugated steel facades (above the main entrance) at different times, totally ruined the look of the whole building.

The place looks amazing in that first photo - thanks for posting that one..

Aye, cheers Nodrog. Good stuff :)

It's a shame that facade couldn't have been reused. That's the way it goes, though...
