Game on: rebel curlers ignore bonspiel ‘ban’

Image

It is a thoroughly Scottish rebellion: thousands of renegade curling fans defying a health and safety warning to stage a national meeting on the Lake of Menteith.

The Sunday Herald

The health and safety of teh ice was never in question. The atitude of the police is questionable.
"I before E, except after C" works in most cases but there are exceptions.

We went up there today, many hundreds of people out on the ice, walking, skating, sledging, (some pulled by dogs), and everyone enjoying themselves.

We walked to the Castle, then Inchmaholme, then over to Port of Menteith where the curling was being held.

After watching the curling, I think I understand the rules, have a whisky, then another, throw some stones, have a whisky, discuss over a whisky, then go to the pub........

The Hotel was doing a roaring trade in burgers and Mulled cider, everyone we saw seemed to be smiling, and if this is Global Warming, bring it on....

A word of praise for Central Scotland Police, the area was mobbed with cars, and they dealt with the queues with politeness and patience, well done!

Lovely photos Mr Sam.

See that the woman from Cape Wrath finally made it home this week and is still hoping for a turkey dinner.

I see there is to be a film made of the stranded woman from Cape Wrath.
I suppose she has had a belated turkey dinner by now.

What's the weather like in Glasgow today?

Just looked at the weather on the BBC website and we are to have "invading showers" today. Not heard that one before so I don't know what to expect. Will they be coming in longboats with horned helmets? Will it rain or will there be rape and pillage too? Perhaps the clouds will resemble a Junkers 52 and spew forth paratroopers. The battery in the camera is charged just in case.

Something tells me it will just turn out to be so much hot air, though. Or piss and wind...
