Gorbals Photography archive

Postby iBob » Sun Jan 18, 2009 9:12 pm

I have been trying to track down a community organisation called "The Gorbals Photography Archive".

It received significant funding a few years ago but hasn't been heard of since.

They took control of a large collection of Oscar Marzaroli studio prints as well as several dozen prints from 1900 onwards.

Has anyone here had any contact with or knowledge of this group?

Do you know from whom, and when?

The photographs were inherited from the defunct 'Gorbals Fair Society'/'Gorbals Arts Group' about six years ago.
(both these organisations are now defunct — with financial impropriety associated with the GFS)

The funding was made available from GCC (as far as I know).

Seems scandalous.

The Gorbals Arts Group are still going. They are based somewhere in the Saltmarket area. There was a Gorbals Heritage Group which made a video about 10 years ago. It was available at some libraries. I think it was called "On The Streets Where We Lived". They may have used some of the photos on that video.

"I before E, except after C" works in most cases but there are exceptions.

Thanks for the links - they have no info on the missing photographs or the Gorbals Photography archive.

They and their funding seem to have vanished into thin air.

I am sure some of the photos were used in this video. I have a copy of it.
