that figures, the kirkcaldy 'abc'/odeon (3 screens) was shut in favour of the swanky new multiplex at halbeath, dunfermline.

the main condition of sale of the building was that it could not be re-opened as a cinema, leaving about the only place in kirkcaldy to watch a film on the 'big screen', the adam smith theatre. iirc, there used to be 4 or 5 'proper' cinemas until eventually in the mid 70s, only the 'abc' was left

if you want the up-to-the-minute releases though, multiplex it is. :x

various plans for the building have come to naught over the years, still sitting empty
hey, d'ye think it's ootside yir in?

i am wondering if the "underground" cinema is still on the go. my wife and i used to live in berlin and chicago and visited such cinemas frequently. this is something which is really missing in glasgow...

can someone send me more information to [email protected]?

If you're used to the fleshpots of Europe and beyond you'd be very disappointed by Glasgow's version.

Thanks for your reply.
I still would like to try it.
Any ideas or information how to find it and what's happening there?

Thanks.

I have fond memories of the Curzon at Charing Cross.especially the back row in the balcony where a lot of action took place.I oftne saw women and couples there although the "porn" was crap and you never saw anything.Interested to know if there are any "cinemas"still operating.Email me on [email protected]

I kinda have to ask, but what exactly would anyone expect to find clicking on a thread with a title like this one?? Glasgow's seedy underbelly is a fairly legit topic of discussion on a forum about hidden aspects of the city, and this thread does have some genuine historical research queries. Not like folk are swapping brothel locations!

I doubt very much that anything remotely resembling an adult cinema of old still exists in the city, given the advent of DVD and the internet - the fact that most of the queries for locations are similar in format and come from posters who didn't stick around long leads me to suspect they're probably just Strathclyde's finest noseying around...!

Well spotted and succinctly put.

Slipped past the radar in Ché Doorstop.

i was a big fan of the curzon and grand in the late 70s/80s discovered divalleys in about 2000 but it shut... i still visit porn cinemas in london, birmingham and huddersfield... and are always fun.. but if the facility was still in my town..mmmm that would be even better..... discretion always assured.

Draw the curtains ,get some popcorn, have a friend sit behind you coughing and rustling sweetie wrappers and rent an 2adult fil" and hey presto, the authentic cinema experience at home.

Although the Classic Grand professed to show "Adult Films" the content of these films was tame even compared with what could be seen on the telly at the time (Bouquet of Barbed Wire springs to mind). I remember ending up there one Saturday Winter afternoon as the football was wiped out, and the films were awful, you were lucky to see a nipple, never mind anything more explicit. The banter from several groups of would be football supporters made up for it, much to the disgust of the "regulars"
