Glasgow's Police Museum

Postby onyirtodd » Mon Nov 17, 2008 12:30 pm

The curator of Glasgow's Police Museum has spoken of his "devastation" after being given just over three weeks to close it.
Former police inspector Alastair Dinsmor has been told to vacate the Turnbull Street premises and put the collection into storage by December 8

Gutted :(

I have wanted to go here for a while, and probably won't get the chance now.
Due to cutbacks, the light at the end of the tunnel is off until further notice!

Far be it from me, as a comparitive newbie, to suggest such a thing but perhaps an HG afternoon out, followed by a quiet drink somewhere local? Mebbe HH and I could even agree to a truce for the duration.

I've never been but always intended to. Might pop by sometime this week. Are they OK with taking big cameras in?

Smashing stuff. Looking forward to seeing the place - I've always had a soft spot for police/military memorabilia.

Really sad that it's closing though.

Why can't they merge it with the Strathclyde Police Museum in Pitt Street?

There's an interesting collection there too, and if you put the two together it might really be something . .

It is on a prime luxury flats plot, so what can we expect :|

The attitude of the GCC seems very blunt, no looking into taking the building under the wing of Glasgow museums, no enthusiasm at all from them into finding a way to keep it open. Well I guess a police museum isn't 'trendy' is it
As someone who has collected police stuff on and off, i'm especially saddened by this :(

It's not the easiest place to get into, only viewable by appointment. I can't imagine the police themselves will have the cash or enthusiasm to expand it.
