Specialist Supermarkets in Glasgow

Postby Gary Brown » Tue Jul 22, 2008 9:08 am

Does anyone know where I can easily find a list of specialist food stores in or near the City Centre and West End? Mainly for advertising to students from the Far East, Pakistan and India, Middle East, Africa and the like? Or even if you know of any, please let me know.

Kind regards,

Gary R. Brown

There's an Indian supermarket at Eglinton Toll, corner of Maxwell Road.

Also Matthews, off Garscube Road (Chinese supermarket) - is it still there?

Non-standard food shops in Glasgow

Postby MungoDundas » Tue Jul 29, 2008 8:01 pm

Maybe some visitors would be seeking kosher foods?
Unlikely I know these days, however if so, try the Hello Deli
on Fenwick Road in Giffnock, not a supermarket though –
just a regular shop.

I think maybe there's a kosher shop in Busby too?

Additionally, if you need (as far as I could gather) Tanzanian or
Nigerian CDs, Nesquik, Extreme hair beauty products or similar;
Dumbarton Rd at Thornwood has - Salavanos Chez Lebon.
It's got a new sign, but they still dump heaps of rubbish outside.

Alternatively, plain Scottish Grub is getting unusual these days
so maybe dumpling, macaroon or boiled ham from McCutcheons
on the Gallowgate would be of interest?

But then again, just lately I've stumbled upon a speciality German outlet selling smoked sausage, hare's legs, cans of Prosecco and cheap gardening equipment!
