Favourite Jack House Quotes

Postby Blueboy » Sun Jun 29, 2008 1:38 pm

The City of Glasgow is undoubtedly the greatest city in the world.

Walking down Renfield Street on a wet day is to me a more rewarding experience than promenading Fifth Avenue on a fine day, and I have done both.

Edit: Corrected typo.
Too late, the spelling police are on the ball tonight.

I see Borders have a re-issue on the shelves at present, though it can be had in most 2nd hand bookshops. It's always on Ebay too.

I'm sorry you feel it's a smart-arsed comment. If you're going to quote someone, especially a noted wordsmith, you have a duty to get it right.

I hate to rock the boat but I must disagree with Mr House. I believe 5th Avenue well and truly has the edge over Renfield Street.

I worked as a copy boy for the Evening Times back in the 1960’s and in spite of the ignorance of youth I noticed at the Features Desk that Jack House was a buck-teethed self-opiniated Gasgows smart-arse!!

Long before the time of Glasgow enthusiasts/ anoraks/ websites / there was no real appreciation of Glagow culture.
It has been very much an evolutionary process seeded by people like Jack House.

He was there long before us lot, who should all should keep the whole idea going…eh?

By the way all the mis-spellings of our drear green city of Glasgow were all caused by drink rather than mischief!!!
