My memories of 80's central are sketchy being only born in 1983, but I'm going to say 1987-88 just to be a bit different.

The pics are not online as far as I know. You'll need to go into the Mitchell to view them.

Glasgow Central September 1985 pics
The building with the white windows is the former TIO (train information office) which had closed just before the pics were taken.

I'm not old enough to remember the TIO in operation, with the manual "boards" behind the windows. That would have been fascinating to see!

I am! :? It was certainly 'interesting' to see them in action. Most of the
time there only seemed to be one or guys up there. If there was a sudden
platform change, you would see them bombing about, pulling old boards
off the windows, and sticking the new ones up. ::):

I see the TIO windows covered over, there. I seem to recall they were like that
for a long time after the TIO closed.

I'm surprised no one ever took a heider out of one of those floor to ceiling windows. unless the windows were made of toughened glass :?:

There's a rarity in that picture - bins in railway stations! There haven't been any at Central in a long time, and they quickly disappeared or were taped up from all other stations on 12/09/2001 funnily enough...
