Born in Drumchapel, moved to Rochdale in Lancashire when I was four. Moved to Irvine aged 11, and grew up there. That really WAS shit.

That would be about 1870 then.
"I before E, except after C" works in most cases but there are exceptions.

Can I be nosey and ask why you were living in Yemen. I lived in Marib for a period. Too scared to do so now I think. Fond memories of making qat tea in the liquidiser as I was too lazy to chew.

Can't say an awful lot. I did visit Marib to see the temples and an old dam if memory serves me right. Sana'a was a great place to live, was there during the first Gulf War which taught you a few things about folk. Very nice people generally always made to feel welcome, never felt like an outsider. I hope to return at some point, might couple it with my trip to the Burj Tower once it's complete.

Was Marib also a brand of cigarettes? The tobacco was significant superior in Yemen by comparison the the UK pish. I remember enjoying Craven 'A' as a quality international brand, yet they were akin to smoking tracing paper in the UK. Kamaran......Oh for a pack of Kamaran
