Why would you own a crossbow in the first place, if not to kill animals?

This shot was from a couple of years ago. We watched them for about
an hour before they buggered off at high speed.

Quite possibly. There is currently a whole load of deer roaming the grounds of the former Ruchill Hospital. It would seem they are relatively safe at the moment as they are fenced in. However, if the developers who bought this site cannot find a way to relocate them, who knows what the poor deer' fate will be.

In Kilmarnock - as a teenager - I thought I heard two women in high heels running down the street and a small deer then ran past. It had escaped from the country park. The following day at school a friend claimed he had been passed by a deer on the street and I started up the 'Liar! Liar!' chant. School days...mmm.....

City Deer

Postby Lone Groover » Sun Dec 30, 2007 11:31 am

I was very surprised to find myself in the company of three deer in Maryhill yesterday. Only captured two on the phone. But this makes me wonder, how did they get there?

The picture is not very good, but if you locate the white tails you get the shape of the rest of them. This was around 3pm.

Yeah, probably. I just looked up the area on Google earth and there is of course the canal and the old railway lines. I was just so surprised, I mean to say, don't they have crossbows in Maryhill? ::):

I think it rather wonderfull to see such things. What next ?

A deer ran out on one of my friends as he was driving his car at the motorway junction at Baillieston earlier this year!

There are deer in Pollok Park, which is still within the City boundary. But they are elusive and you don't see them very often. I've spotted them at the northern [Dumbreck Road] end and also south of the river Cart in the rough ground behind Sheep Park Farm.

Roe Deer(Capreolus capreolus) are the smallest deer species native to Europe. They are common in woodlands through out the City.

This 12 hectare site is a complex area with woodlands, grassland slopes, a small marshy valley bottom and areas of scrub and developing heath. This mosaic of habitats provides for a wealth of wildlife. High numbers of different plant species have been recorded in the woodland areas and the dry grassland, including the common spotted orchid.
