Another club i had a great time in, and that no one seems to have mentioned was chippendales, a basement club located between the vintners and the drawning room on the clydeside. This was a bit of a dive but served it's purpose well. I remember taking a friend of mines at the time in a sort of this is me coming out without telling you, how long will it take you to guesss type senario. :D

The Waterloo has a Sunday late afternoon/early evening bingo session, hosted by a drag queen. Not sure if they do it all the time though, better check beforehand if you wanted to go along.

Last night, in a moment of madness, I allowed myself to be escorted to Merchant Pride on Candleriggs for what I fully intend to be the first and last time (*). In an attempt to block out as much of what was happening to me as possible, I passed the time writing this helpful review, until now only posted to my Facebook page but deserving of a wider audience:

Merchant Pride: a venue with no ventilation, no aircon, ineffectual ceiling fans that look as if they're about to fly off and decapitate several customers and what I assumed was karaoke but actually turns out to be a genuine act (in the loosest sense of the term)

(*) Despite being told: "It's a shithole" by another friend.

[The building] was vacated by the shrinking Seaforth Highlanders Regimental Club when they decided the premises were too large for their declining membership.

"Sheriff yesterday rejected claim that giving a homosexual club a drinks licence would morally endanger the public. But he REFUSED to grant the club a licence—because the application had been made when the club had not been properly formed.
Members of the Royal Institute for the War Blinded had objected to the licence being given to the Glasgow branch of the Scottish Homosexual Rights Group.
The gay club, at 4 Queen's Crescent, Woodside, is next door to the ex-soldiers premises.
Another 700 locals and a chief constable also objected.
Glasgow Sheriff Court was told that drink was likely to lead to an increase in homosexual activities, presently contrary to Scots Law.
And the club would probably have males who had broken the law and who would be likely to make sex advances to people near the club.

Glasgow SHRG Gay Club,
Queen's Crescent, Glasgow.
SCOTTISH HOMOSEXUAL. RIGHTS GROUP (GLASGOW)
Latest News on the Club: June 1980
The Club will open on Friday 11th July (not 27th June as previously stated) with a SPECIAL OPENING DISCO and free buffet (9—2). For its first two weeks the club will be open to non-membere, with special rates for those applying to join. There will be discos on Fridays, Saturdays, and Tuesdays and meetings on Wednesdays (see provisional programme below). There will be a Juke box and video games in the lounge and there Will be a quieter reading and television room downstairs where coffee will be served.
At present there is no alcohol allowed: nevertheless people who appear to be under 21 should bring proof of age. This is because we will soon be licensed, and we are starting out in the fully professional way we intend to continue, including a lower age limit of 18 years. A full range of soft drinks and a selection of snacks will be available.
After the first couple of weeks, entry will be restricted to members and their guests only. This means you should join at once so that you will not be refused entry to what will be Scotland's first, and Britain’s best, gay Club. Remember er it takes at least two weeks to become a member.
This is an exciting venture for all of us. Phase 1 including the disco and lounge, is being decorated and equipped to a high standard. Soon the Club facilities will be further enhanced when Phases II and III get under way.
