Victorian era industrial buildings still standing

Can we get a list going of any remaining pre 1901 industrial buildings ? Any gems still around ? The earlier the better. Photos as well of course.

I realise there may be a slight clash with the red & white brick building thread, but lets play it by ear eh? :)

(Sorry for the clumsy thread title  )

I'll quite happily contribute to it Kenny, but one problem is that it's difficult to tell just exactly how old some of them are!

But I agree, be nice to collect them together before they all get flattened, and to have somewhere to look to as a point of reference the next time the council want to do something like, say, flatten a B-listed warehouse in Tradeston....

We've probably got a shedload of material scattered around loads of threads that would fit nicely if collected here.

Sorry for the grumble :) I suppose we don't have to be too exact on dates.
I'd be really facinated to see if there are any very early buildings still around like the Tradeston factory, and the Engine works in West St. As you say all to often they just slip away unnoticed :(

I think they key to understanding this thread, Dex, is the word 'industrial'.

Don't give up Ken

I am sure some people are out trying to get some photos to post. Or are currently searching through their collection to see if they have any photos that can be posted on this thread.

It may take some time given the time of year. At least wait till after the New Year before you write it off.

Ken, the general idea when starting a thread is to do some research and start the thread with an informative post which catches the imagination and then everyone else follows......

You must have had something on your mind which made you want kick off the thread. No? :)

Ok ok, i'm new at this ::):

As I said earlier what caught my attention was the 1855 engine works in West St, and the old Tradeston factory, so I thought "Oooo I wonder how many other old industrial buildings are still around".
I was hoping to find out about buildings of a silmilar age still standing, but I choose pre 1901 to make it a wee bit easier, I was originally going to ask for pre 1860.
I could have mentioned a couple of tram depots, but god you don't want to hear about them yet again. They probably wouldn't even count as industrial.

I expected a flood, but not even a dribble ::): Back of the class all of you.

There may be a couple around Partick. The Carlton Bingo was an engineering works prior to becoming a cinema - I don't know when it started its life but opening as a cinema in 1910 its very likely to be old enough to fall into your criteria.
