I went to see the new public art work at the BBC Headquarters tonight, the artist Toby Patterson is hoping the Glasgow public will give the piece a nickname...any ideas?

is 10 metres high and 20 metres long and is the most expensive piece of public art ever erected in Glasgow.
Now all that Toby Paterson's £350,000 addition to the BBC's headquarters at Pacific Quay needs is something a little irreverent: a "typical Glasgow nickname".
With a superstructure made from steel cast in Grangemouth, and its multi-coloured shapes also made, from glass fibre reinforced plastic plywood, in Scotland, the work, Paterson said, was intended to hint at the manufacturing history of the Pacific Quay site.

The 25 coloured shapes are based on portions of the Ordnance Survey map of Scotland. Paterson said: "I spent a while looking at maps, and the shapes are taken from them. It represents the topography of Scotland a wide range of different areas. I am not saying which shape is where - there is town and country, Highlands and islands."

Fucking hell, excuse my language everyone.

The licence payer is paying for this as ART !!

What does it signify? what does it mean ? some perpex stuck on an iron frame in front of an even shitier desing of a building.

BBC you really have a lot to answer for, beetween paying off staff and paying for this shite.

Sorrry am so angry at this mob for promising so much and delivering so little.

Wow.

You can't even blame modern art because it's just really bad retro. It's not even situated well since the only thing the new BBC building has going for it is/was symmatry.

Also, my Ordinance Survey maps seem to be out of date.

If we are looking for a nickname can I start the bidding with 'The P.O.S'

mmmm not a great fan of it (I hate solid blocks of colour) BUT i can see where the guy was coming from. HUGE big glass, featureless building execpt for the actual busyness of the framework of teh building itself, it needs something bold and also probably fairly simple in order to actually be seen! Anything less would be lost. Aloso given the openness and greyness of that whole space and every structure in it.... well colour is the obvious thing to add.

A lot cheaper than Jonathan Ross (and probably more useful). Yes, it's sad that that's the only defence I can come up with.

However this (or whatever they chose to do, in actual fact) will be used by a jealous and spiteful media to kick against the BBC as it their want to do at every available opportunity. That is equally tiresome.

My first thought was SHARMANKA AT THE LUBYANKA but I rejected this as
sharmanka is actually clever, witty and art.

So what about :- WASTE OF MONEY TREE AT THE BBC

Given it's so bright and colourful in such a dull part of town, how about 'EASY TARGET'?

How feckin' contrived is that?? "Something a little irreverent: a typical Glasgow nickname". Trying far too hard Toby mate.

Did the BBC spend £350k of licence payers money on this pretentious shite?

The place may need a bit of colour, never mind £350,000, give me £350 and a taxi to Homebase and I'll provide a splash of colour......with change anaw.

Modern art never fails to depress me.

Can't wait for the winter gail force winds to kick up around that building like last year... half will end up floating down the clyde and the other half embedded in the crowne plaza
