Strathclyde Mornington Crescent

Postby nodrog » Mon May 17, 2004 11:28 am

Anyone up for a local game of Mornington Crescent?
Since our underground is so small, the board is expanded to include the local suburban rail network, and the bus overground is also fair game.
First one to reach Charing Cross is the winner.

Standard house rules apply (see http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A769395 and http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A617744) with the obvious local addition of the SPT Variations, the underground signalmans strike option, and the usual allow-15-minutes-for-a-cross-town-station-interchange requirement.
Stations with escalators may be considered 'wild'.

I'll begin with a move to cunningly block any diagonal backsliding using the Drumgelloch maneouveour:

I play: Langbank

Will anyone rise to my challenge?

Oooh cunning, but I'm not going to fall into your trap _that_ easily.

Shieldmuir. (assuming limited service is in play).

Ambitious, but ultimately a clumsy move....

An interesting move, but you have failed to notice i am now in a position to execute a cumbrae slip, and can therefore proceed to Pollokshields.

West, naturally.

Ah, my young squire. That leads to an easy route out by my cunning ploy of "bus catching" and therefore can exploit that by playing....

I'm really amused that it appears to be Bunsen Honeydew and Beaker playing this......

Yes that though had occurred to me as well.
Strangely appropriate somehow!

hurrah - I just got my second stripe playing Mornington Crescent!

Newly emboldened by that news, I shall take Partick bus/rail/ug Interchange - with its escalators! - thus closing off 3 potential lines of escape for you...

I'll utilise the wildcard option here and play Hillhead, using the loophole that exists when you play Partick.

Nicely done.
However, I can now invoke the Train Doors are Stuck Protocols, which should keep you there for enough time while I play (somewhat appropriately for this forum) - Botanics!

Thats assuming the Extant Tunnels (1963) ruling is still in force of course,

I was hoping you would play that rule. It means I can now deliver the penultimate blow....

Wemyss Bay!

Get out of that. Yuo can't, because Ferry Links are worth double.....

Yes i can, because you have overlooked the Renfrew Ferry - which of course allows me to counter with Hillhead Road (number 45 bus service)!

Nice try though.

Good move. Not many people remember that rule.....

Okay, that leaves me with few options. And the only one worth playing, and the only one I might have a chance with, is Barassie.

There's two possible moves from there... Are you a good enough player to take the right one?
