When I passed by it looked like the guys from Village People were helping out although the
Indian was just getting in the way.

Did you go in not realising it's a gay bar ? ::):

It took me 10 seconds AFTER I'd bought my pint to realise my mistake :?

i was heading to the Ferry to see a gig. Arrived early and they wouldn't let me in. No problem - Nearest pub...... Waterloo.

Got chatting to a bloke & he tells me a joke after asking where I was heading.

"What's the difference between a Ferry & a Fairy ?" he asks

Innocently I reply "Dunno "

" Give us a kiss and I'll tell you ! "

Buggered if I'm going back there again..........

Picture the scene......Mr T outside a gay bar in Glasgow demanding folk 'get some nuts', surely that was pretty much on the cards anyways

Govan Press free rag has it that Napier House is to be demolished mid-April. The local councillor and MSP are bragging because they've had the demolition brought forward from June (tbh the road closure has been causing local probs, but possibly they could have found another solution?)

I like this bit:
"It is believed the delay was caused by difficulties locating the building's owners and getting their permission to demolish it."
Where's the going-on-fire fairy when you need her?

Heritage, eh? What a bugger.....

Napier House Update

Postby namnavog » Wed Aug 05, 2009 10:16 pm

It has taken a while (even after some councilors "rushing it through") but it looks like this building will soon be "hardcore" for the M74. What's left is now separate from the Tenement next door and protection has been placed around the base, presumably to protect the pavement during demolition.

I Have been facinated by this building since I moved nearby five years ago. What a great history and so much more pleasing to the eye than most new builds - I will be sorry to see it go. I am not convinced it was best to demolish - it must have cost a fortune to do this - and we lose a stop on our "Heritage Trail". The road has been closed for about a year. Security has been employed for much of this time. Men with "Jack Hammers" have been working from the top down for way over a month (In a building supposedly about to fall down - is that safe?). A small piece of road has been laid to allow access to Napier Drive from Clydebrae Street while demolition continues. The heavy demolition machinery is still to move in - can't be cheap. The rubble has to be crushed and transported - more expense. Would it not have been cheaper to make this building safe, brick it up and paint in fake windows? Who is paying for this anyway?

Tenement collapses

ET

Image

29 Jul 2011

Investigations are continuing after homes and businesses were evacuated when part of a tenement building collapsed in Glasgow’s South Side.
Firefighters were called to the block of flats in Victoria Road in Govanhill, around 6pm yesterday.
The four-storey tenement had partially collapsed from the drying area on the first floor.
Today the area remained cordoned off until a full assessment could be carried out.
Although no one was in the building at the time, snooker players at the Q Club below had a lucky escape as bricks and masonry fell more than 15ft on to the roof of the club.
