Two more building that look like they are about to fall down or parts fall off.

1. The old one that is across the road from the Citizens Theatre. Why don't they just knock it down, rather than let it fall down?

2. The sandstone building across from Cineworld, I know it's been refurbished and had an extra floor put on it, but I swear every time I walk past it, the stonework near the top has an unusual bulge abou it.

Looks to me as if the building is made from sand stone , if so then sandstone has a grain running through it . and through time with weather erosian then the sand stone can become more pourus and develop faults . Anyone standing underneath that lot would have bee potted heid alright .

I thought Glasgow Syndrome was the tendency to burst spontaneously into flames and burn to the ground.....

A couple more victims of the plant/water syndrome, not exactly falling down just yet, but...

Disintegrating window in Paisley Rd W -

(Nice bit of decoration there - didn't even notice it till I looked at the photo.)

And a broken bay window, a bit further along -

Better look at the crack here

What happened to the building across from the Mitchell at the corner of Kent Road and North Street? On my wee crawl the other weekend to the Bon Accord and points west I noticed it had gone.
No another case of Glasgow Syndrome was it?

Thanks RK, couldn't remember the name of the curry house or I would have done a search.

Drove past Napier House, Govan Road this morning - they've got half the road closed (traffic lights) and barriers along the pavement as though they're expecting bits to fall off any moment - anyone here with inside info?

There was an excellent talk in St Andrews in the Square on Monday (as part of Doors Open Week) on the challenges facing buildings in Glasgow, about a survey of their condition and anticipated work required over the next 20 years. Scary stuff, not least the shortfall in the number of qualified stonemasons available to carry out the work.

Napier House Update

Looks like it is getting demolished - Govan Road is closed both ways today and signs up around saying "Demolition in Progress" (Reigart).

I'm Gutted!

Took some pictures of Napier House at lunchtime today. This building really is in a terrible state. Sadly I can't see it lasting much longer.

This is probably why the road's been closed off. Looks as if it's ready to detach itself.Image

That is shocking. In this day and age, and all that. I've never seen it in the flesh and I'm no structural engineer, but I fear you're right, Viceroy, it's had it. On the bright side, some great urban decay photos :?
All the world seems in tune on a Spring afternoon, when we're poisoning pigeons in the park.
