I passed it today and the stone is still there where it fell and it looks like nothing is going to get done until next week. Maybe the place will be torched by Monday.

Probably best just to bulldoze the lot. Just in case.

I'm surprised it hasnt happened to that unusual building 200 yards east on the other side of the road... its in a very poor state with metal straps and supports all over it. Only thing in it is a general grocer which doesnt dare open its window shutters!
Ya'll know the building I mean

Aye the closed shutter is integral to the structural integrity of the building. As is the 200 tonnes of pigeon shit that must be up there cementing it all together.

Yes : Napier House, built in 1899 to a design by W J Anderson as a model lodging house, later became premises of Arbuckle's, cork manufacturers.

Really nice building, but as you say, fallen into disrepair.

Jings! I went to look at a flat there back in the late 80's I think, maybe early 90's. The building had been done up a bit by a developer.
That must be a real choker for the residents eh?

went along for a look this morning. there must be at least a couple of tons of rubble there . it,s just sheer luck that no one happened to be walking along under it as it came crashing down 8O

I notice the Lloyds TSB sign is also on the ground. I wonder if it was over enthusiastic drilling to put it up that weakened the structure or maybe it's just a coincidence.

Its a clean sheer with none of the surrounding stonework seemingly too adversely affected, so looks like it might be an existing fault in the collapsed balcony floor, whether that was a natural flaw in the stone, fault in the construction or just lack of maintenance I couldn't say, and exacerbated by Glasgow Syndrome i.e. plant and water penetration. There has probably been water pooling on it for some years and last few baltic mornings will have been the proverbial straw.

(all the from one picture eh  ::): )
