freshnlo Pedal for Scotland is now open for registration for 2010 - and this time there’s three options to choose from. Scotland’s biggest bike ride just got even bigger, as you can now pick from three rides:

Challenge Ride – the classic 51 mile Glasgow to Edinburgh Challenge.
Sportive Ride – a 100 mile Glasgow to Edinburgh route aimed at the keen road cyclist.
Family Ride – a short off-road ride for families, youngsters and new cyclists.

Find out more about each ride here.

Belleville Rendez-vous
Film
4 stars!

Wednesday 28 July
10:30pm - 11:45pm
BBC4

This animated adventure from Sylvain Chomet is a graphic delight and a triumph of invention. Effortlessly combining slapstick, character quirk and nostalgia, it follows a club-footed grandmother and her pudgy mutt across the Atlantic as they attempt to rescue the cyclist grandson who has been kidnapped from the Tour de France by two sinister gangsters. Splendid set pieces abound, including the newsreel opening (featuring such greats as Charles Trenet, Fred Astaire and Josephine Baker), the ocean crossing, dinner with the derelict Belleville triplets and the climactic chase. There's the occasional longueur, but the wealth of throwaway gags and passing homages give this ambitious entertainment a unique charm.

Closing a stretch of Broomielaw for four hours or whatever it was is NOT a car-free city centre. What a load of balls. Moreover, the route from Broomielaw to Glasgow Green is already one of the roads that is relatively easy and safe to cycle on anyway.

Skyride is a giant fraud. All it does is suggest to people that something is being done to promote cycling when it isn't, and reinforce the notion that the roads are too dangerous to cycle on unless they're closed off.

Anyone cycle in the 2010 Pedal For Scotland? I was out on the course taking photos, just past Kirkliston. Have a look at http://www.PhotoForMyWall.com/events if you would like to see if I caught you.

Pity the busses dont have bike racks like they do in San Francisco.

I will try and find a picture as explaining how they work will be difficult.
