Does anyone know what ever became of the company that was to offer 2 passenger ferries, going between Glasgow to Greenock, Dunoon and Rothesay.

They were to start operation in the summer of 2003 but they have been postponed since I don't know how long.

Does anyone know if they'll ever run?

Dead and buried, and were probably never going to happen anyway.

Never had any vessels, despite promises, then claiming to be sourcing temporary vessels, which also never appeared.

The company currently has two purpose-built, 260 passenger vessels, capable of travelling between Glasgow to Greenock, Dunoon and Rothesay at a speed of 30 knots, on order.

However, these vessels will be unavailable to enter service until Summer 2003, and suitable temporary solutions have not yet been secured.

Of course the problem of the Squinty Bridge was raised, pardon the pun. Did they ever agree to a slight increase in height for small boats?

Sad that the Clyde is such a dead river.

It is sadder still that SPT are more interested in spending BILLIONS extending the subway but won;t even invest in this kind of transport system. A Ferry running from Gourock to the Broomielaw* / SECC could rival the train in terms of time, comfort etc. In the short distance, a River Ferry from the bottom of Howard St to Braehead would be nice and could connect with buses to Renfrew, Paisley etc.

*=assuming that the Squinty Bridge problem can be overcome.

I think it such a shame as a ferry service doon the water to rothesay etc would be a great thing for the Clyde, Glasgow and tourism.
