What does the DFT guidance say about bins?

That people might put bombs in them on trains or in stations. Hence why you find people wandering round with clear plastic bags to collect rubbish.

I regularly travel by train between Dennistoun and Charing X, to be fair the cleanliness on these trains is pretty good IMO.

Glad to say I know nothing of Paisley. Drove through it once, that was enough.

Would it not be better to have manned stations, and have someone sell tickets on the train? Hardly rocket science.

Pailsy Gilmour Street is a staffed station then again if you think Paisley has visitors you probaly think Gimour street is a quaint seaside platform.

The barriers are up 7-10am and 3.30-6.30pm weekdays and 9.30-2.30 on Saturday. These are only rough times due to different train schedules.

Another thing is Scotrail don't actually want barrier checks at all. They're told to put them their by the executive/inspector. If people get through without buying a ticket they (Scotrail) get fined an inordinate sum of money.

("The quality inspection regimes in the franchise will however check that the franchisee is using the ticket machines and barriers effectively and will fine them (at a rate of up to 150k per four week period) if they fail to do so").

Even me not having a wee name badge on gets them a 10k fine.

The same with dirty trains/stations/staff/etc. These get sneak inspections "constantly" done on them. The folk are floating about every day.

The lack of bins is simply less places for baddies to plank bombs in. The outerlying stations have clear bins as it's unrealistic to have someone at every station. Just the main ones. Trains are cleaned every time it gets to central. As for moaning about rubbish anyway, that's not Scotrails fault, that's "YOUR" fault, the general public. It isn't the conductor/ T.E that throws McDonald wrappers everywhere.

If you look at the end of Ps 1+2 there's a board that shows you the prior 4 weeks efficiancy for season ticket holders to claim money back. Very rarely can they due to the high levels of trains running on time.

Agree with the manky glaswegians who leave crap everywhere but got to totally disagree with the cleaning of the trains. Ive seen cleaners on London trains but NEVER on a Glasgow train. Cathcart Circle gets into central, people get off, people on platform get on. Driver walks from the back of the train to the front and train goes on its journey again. Not once have I seen a cleaner tidying up, emptying bins etc.

I know they wash the station at mine everyday as there are puddles left all day to dry and you get the joy of sliding down the stairs to get out of the station.

All agencies need to join up to do something about the litter around stations, glaswegians are manky, we know that but do the rest of us who take our rubbish home with us have to put up with pigeon shit, looking out at debris along the railway line, fag ends etc?

I do agree with no bins in stations...the threat of being bombed these days is bad enough never mind leaving boxes on walls. Might aswell leave a sign saying " BIN YOUR BOMBS HERE 8O ". Ive seen cleaners on trains before, see them all the time. I come from Greenock, the trains most of the time coming to work early in the morning are the nicer ones, but coming home at night their the most uncomfy things ever. Reckon its to stop people sleeping on the train since its such a long journey :D . Also most junkies/neds/bams and weirdos are either sleeping or still wasted from the night before at that time in the morning...so theirs more chance of keeping the trains nice and tidy ::): .

I agree with the original point of the thread. The ticket inspectors are Central are almost all a bunch of abrasive buggers.

One bizarre incident that springs to mind was on the day of the Robbie Williams gig at Hampden last year. There were seperate (huge) queues for both normal punters and for Mount Florida tickets only at the high level station.

With 5 minutes to spare, I decided to chance the low level ticket booth. This had a massive queue as well, however there were two chaps with ticket issuing machines standing alongside with much less of a queue. When I reached the front, I was informed that they too were only selling tickets to Mount Florida. I explained that my train to Whifflet was leaving in a couple of minutes and that sending me to the back of the other queues would result in me missing said train, but they were having none of it. Suffice to say, a number of swearies were uttered at that point.

I've a fair few other incidents I could bore you with, but won't bother. In any case, the inspectors on the Argyle Line, which I currently use, are actually OK.
