The Glasgow Guide by David Williams

Postby Alex Glass » Sat Jun 16, 2007 3:09 pm

I think HH may have mentioned this book on an other thread.

Just bought it from Book World for £4.99.

It's full title is "The Glasgow Guide - Guided Walks Through Old and New Glasgow by David Williams".

Just had a quick look through it and it is full of interesting information. Sorry I don't have a scanned copy of the front. There are details of 13 Walks through Glasgow as well as all the information you need about the places and building you will see whilst walking.

With the information provided it is easy to arrange a walk through any of the routes.

As we hopefully approach some better weather maybe some HG members would be interested in covering a couple of the walks and posting some photos together with information provided within the Guide.

Most of the walks are circular and under 5 miles long. Given the time usually taken by HG members it may take up most of a day. Only a couple are linear and a couple are 7.5 miles.

With the information provided by David Williams these walks could be a worthwhile inclusion to the HG Guided Tours Ltd.

The walks could be seperate topics on HG Projects similar to John R's Eight Streets topic.

Maybe this post should have been posted somewhere else but as this topic is about Glasgow Guides I thought I should post it here first.

Is anyone interested in any of the suggestions above.

Count me in too please. I have this book courtesy of HH funnily enough.

I have been doing a lot of these walks on my own lately as I can't face going through the HG fiasco of lists, changed dates etc when I just want to go for a walk. A bit of company would be nice though.......

I had the chance to visit Abbey Books this afternoon and came away with a couple of finds.

There was a charming older bloke assistant type who just finished his fag outside the shop as I arrived.

I was welcomed to the shop and then pointed in the right direction ( It would have been so much worse in a horror film )

Assistant : "What's your poison, sir?"

Me: "Er, Glasgow"

Assistant: " Try these shelves "

One of the books I bought ( £4) was a Corporation guide book called "Seeing Glasgow" , original cost 20p. I think it is from 1974.

The adverts are a lot more fun than the main text:
