Just reading the train crash thread reminded me of this. Anyone remember a Police helicpter that hit some flats at Eastwood Toll in snow, round about late eighties ?

Mid 90s, unless it happened more than once.

The cops on board both survived, one was the partner of a friend of a friend.

Yup.

I remember seeing the damage to the old folks home, but I think the helicopter was gone by the time I seen it.

Might be a different one you're thinking of:

* In 1990, Sergeant Malcolm Herd was killed when a police Bell Jet 206 helicopter crashed in bad weather at Eastwood Toll, Newton Mearns, Glasgow.

The death is also mentioned here and here

There was another one in Feb 2002 which crashed in a field in Ayrshire.

I Took this pic a few days before the incident as it was taking off at the SECC heliport

Hi new to forum, But remember this well I was sitting across the roundabout coming down the ayr road at the time it happened! heavy snow fall, (I seem to remember that the cause of the accident was later found to be a lack of snow deflectors fitted to the engine air intakes).
I also remember later sitting next to the deceased's family at a police memorial service in glasgow.

Seems like a lifetime away now!!
