The address was 70/78 Kingston Street and in 1928 it was the premises of Cooper, McDougall & Robertson, who were agricultural chemists, and it was their warehouse. It was accessed through a pend.
By 1948 it was the premises of Keiller Gavin Shanks, shipwrights. The steep pitch of the line of the roof that can be seen on the west gable of the Beco building, would suggest glazed sky;ights giving light from facing south, into a loft area used as a workspace.

Thanks pwm! And for anyone else whose wondering I'll save you the google;

Pend
- open-ended passageway through a building; usually vehicular as against close which is pedestrian. Originally a Scots word for an archway, as distinct from an open lane or vennel.
See close, alley.

New word to me, but you see lots of them about! I'll try and use it in a sentence today!
