There was a good program on BBC on Wed 10th Jan 2018 about this very subject called "The storm that saved a City" very worthwhile watching in it on BBCI player or catchup on demand. The show gave a good insight into how devastating the storm was to Glasgow, with peoples account of the damage etc, and also how the city recovered by bulldozing the tenements.
