It isn't.

I've just spent the past few hours digging out a map of the Petershill Road area and scanning it in and I've just noticed that it has been ruled out. Anyway here is what I have in case anyone wants another bit checking elesewhere in the city.

The map is dated 1951 and is two and a half inches to the mile but it has seen better days. It also has an index of street names which could be useful.

defo not that area at springburn - pass it everyday on the way to work and back.....

I have a vague memory of before the fast road was constructed that it was a really dodgy junction there - if you were not careful you could end up on the wrong side of the road! the new road swept past the raised section of tenements and made the back the front, if you know what i mean.

As for where the photo actually shows, it may be worth checking out any hunches you may have on the virtual mitchell site, try and get a comparable image. failing that you could just trawl through the archive, street by street, starting at 'A' ;)

Nice map that, although i'd say it was originally published a good few years before 1951.

Aye, I pointed out that the tenements were up on a raised road/retaining wall too. Away at the start.

I never discounted anyones suggestions.... it wasnt until someone gave me recent evidence that I looked into the possibility of it being that area

I remember Springburn Road when it was like that and the tenements on the
left are up on a retaining wall so it definitely aint there.

Dont have a pic of them, but this is just to the immediate south of the tenements
are/where. The remaining few closes are off camera to the right.

Was that the last photo you took before you got your camera nicked? That youth looks surly.

Did this photo ever get sent into the paper? Maybe it needs to be made into a "Have You Seen This Place?" poster and stuck on lamposts and junction boxes all over the town.

Or maybe Reporting Scotland would run a story on the mystery photo that's had hundreds of Hidden Glaswegians stumped for a month. It'd be a mutually beneficial arrangement coz they need all the help they can get to fill their half hour slot with anything remotely interesting!

I emailed the pic to the Evening Times last week. Problem is, I never buy it
to see if a) it appears at all, and b) anyone answers. ::):
