Port Dundas rusty barge

It's just sitting there, home to spiders and assorted shrubs, with nary a signpost to clue you in as to its history.

A cursory swatch at Google failed to turn up any info (though the hull is quite visible from space.) Does anyone know what this ship was called, or how she ended up in this condition?

Hi PJ
I'm sure I read somewhere that it was a horse drawn coal barge that served the distillery across the road.
There was also a lot of traffic on the canal during WW2 moving armaments from the production plants in the West to the ports on the River Forth for shipment and many barges were used in this role.

It shows up nicely half submerged in this early Sputnik Satellite pic before it was relocated to it's present position on the canal bank :)

That's absolutely astounding. Wow.

Heh, not quite.

It's also been searched pretty thoroughly by Strathclyde Police for drugs and explosives, which is partly my fault, but that may be a tale for another day.

Thanks for the info!

Pgcc, great photo. Are there more Sputnik photos of the Glasgow area on-line?

Nice stuff folks.

The place is not even manicured these days :-(

The previous graffiti has gone, Shane & Sherry rule. And why not?

Still there as of yesterday, unlike the Diageo Distillery shown above:
