Bye Bye to the Griffin Bar

Postby DickyHart » Tue Oct 24, 2006 3:16 pm

well folks it last orders for the Griffen Bar in Bath street after 100 years, always done a nice pint of lager in there. The company who own it Swallow have went into administration.

I always liked the decor inside, no doubt it will get bought over and poncied up. :(

Yip Dickyhart, another sad loss of a traditional bar in Glasgow.
Soon it will all be "nailbars", with their MDF

It was one of those Glasgow institutions I always meant to drop into but I never did.

I see you mention it was owned by the Swallow Group. Ah yes, that was the group whose Chief Executive was using the company money to launch a legal challenge to the Scottish Executive's smoking ban... now there was a guy and a company with their finger on the pulse of business and social life; surprising the've gone bust intit?

This is tragic. Could we all chip in and buy is to preserve it as HG HQ?

Me & Dicky, Kitty& Pol, & at least three others had a beer in there after the Mitchell (spelt wrang) tour, what a bloody shame, places like that are a Glasgow institution ffs. Stop the rot. Fukkin multinashinals.

Ach, tell Scottish Heritage that it's mentioned in 'Espedair Street' (the only popular book in world history to mention Paisley, I believe) and Bob will be your uncle, no doubt :)

Somebody in the work squandered the tea money on Orange Penguins. I had to double my normal inatke to get rid of them as nobody would eat them. A rubbish biscuit.

I'm a fan of Dark Tunnocks caramel wafers and the long gone college creams.

Do you mean HG work avoiders milking the state?..

Good pub that was. Had a few good evenings in there some included Sydney Rosewater.

A lot of good pubs have gone since I was 18.
