Yes, best of luck to us - and that means to the whole of Scotland that will benefit from the Games. I agree that the 'never been one on Africa' card is a strong card for Nigeria to, pay. Moreover, let's face it. if it was something that remotely had anything to do with FIFA or UEFA, the money and bribes would have talked by now.

But it does seem that previous fiascos and the more precarious basis of the Commonwealth Games will help Glasgow's excellent business case.

At least the present adminstration in the Scottish Government seems to be going all-out in support og the Glasgow bid :)

Bad typo in my previous posting. I should have said “a strong card for Nigeria to play” instead of ‘to pay’ . What I said in my next sentence it does make it a bad typo

I really do hope that Glasgow wins. Money well spent I say. A lot of jobs will be created and the knock on effect of employment around the City and for the rest of Scotland as a whole.

I think sometimes people don’t realise that maybe. without the Garden Festival we might not be where we are now. Regeneration over the last 20 years has been astounding. Granted mistakes have been made, but without Private and Public money some of what we see now may have never came to fruition.

Where are the financial models which back that up? If we host these games the city will end up paying for this for years to come with the end result that we will have no sports facilities outside the major cities and funding for grass roots sports will be cut further. The garden festival and UEFA/Champions league finals are hardly on the same scale.

See Manchester 2002 Commonwealth games - figures recently released show those games generated £6billion for the region.

For more in depth information on the financing of Glasgow 2014, please see the CGF Evaluation Committee's Evaluation Report where you'll find a detailed analysis.

Are you not meant to do evaluation reports after the event?

I thought you were speaking of the amount of money the games would generate for Glasgow.

No. I specifically cited Manchester 2002 as an example... you'll see it there in my post you quoted. :)

i was in Manchester for the 2002 games. It did little for people of area around stadium. The area & houses got a general clean up, most of regeneration has came since the games finished. They did manage to open the largest Asda in Europe at the time.

Most games haven't made money usually cities will overspend & pay off debt for years.

..........and went on to quote the revenue generated for the city. I was, and still am, struggling to see the point in quoting from an evaluation study carried out before the event...........unless, of course, you were merely spinning the sums.
