I see they've earmarked the Athletes village to be in Dalmarnock, adjacent to the new National Indoor Sports Arena and National Velodrome and their going to rip out some of the seats in hampden to accomdate a sporting track, but what the heck do they plan to do with Kelvingrove Park?

I think they have planned a bottle-throwing arena and there is to be stickleback fishing in the River Kelvin.
The Buchanan Galleries is to be the venue for shopliftting but the venue for bailing out of a stolen car is as yet undecided. I hear Newton Mearns is to host windae-panning.

You don't want to know just how close those bastards came to turning (at least half of) those bowling greens into a new car park for Kelvingrove. They really, really wanted to.
Anything that secures their survival in the medium to long term can only be a good thing.

Given that the population of Newton Mearns appears to be 87% secondary school teachers and that I was at school in the era when they were still allowed to hit you for no reason other than that they felt like it, I never fail to be astonished at my self restraint in not indulging in a bit of this myself.

An awful big impact can be made if a lot of us add a bit of a personal backing to the Glasgow bid.

Glad to see some people on here are supporting Glasgow's Bid for the Commonwealth Games 2014.
There is still time to sign up by using Cruty's link on page 1.
We have a long way to go before we win enough support from the voting countries of the Commonwealth.
How can we expect others to support us when we can't convince the people of Glasgow to support the Bid.
We may get the opportunity to show off the great spirit Glasgow and its people have to offer. The benefits will also out weight the losses.

HOISTED high up on a cherry-picker, Michael Fennell surveyed one of Glasgow’s most deprived areas. Abandoned warehouses and ageing tenements stretched out before him, but the president of the Commonwealth Games Federation already had a different vision in his mind’s eye.
He saw an athletics village, big enough to accommodate 6,000 comp etitors, and a campus where some of the world’s top sports stars could train and relax. But beyond that he saw a major regeneration scheme abutting the River Clyde; new homes where he currently saw only dereliction.
“This whole area is going to be transformed into housing which is going to be really beautiful. Glasgow is going to have a tremendous benefit from this,” he said. The artist’s impressions and promotional material supplied by those behind the city’s bid to host the 2014 Commonwealth Games must have had the desired effect.
