Shufty. Welcome to HG. :-)

We don't get too many folk naming themselves after Daily Mail editors on here. Now, if it were Peter Owen, you'd have a fan....

Hello everybody,

My name is Martijn — a typical Dutch name — but if we ever meet, no need to bother trying to pronounce it correctly, I'll respond to Martin or Màrtainn jus as well. :) Born in the Netherlands, but currently I live, work and study in Brussels.

Although I don't live in Glasgow, I keep coming back to this city. So far, I managed to find my way around using Foursquare (resulting in this list) and reading some (food & drink) blogs about the city. But when I stumbled upon this forum, I just had to register: it seems like a great way to get to know Glasgow — and those who love it — even better!

In about a month I'll be taking the Megabus from Brussels to Glasgow again (changing buses in London, of course), but until then, I have a lot of catching up to do here. :)

Hello there, I'm Gordon and a newbie. My mum and dad left Glasgow in 1963 after my dad retired after 31 years in the police and moved to bournemouth, taking me and my sister with them. We lived at Striven gardens and at 224 Cairnhill Circus. So I will be interested in these areas of Glasgow. Also I have a badge from the Burnbank Bowling Club. I know my parents were well into their bowls and can remember going there at least once. The family name is Fraser, my mum and dad were Janet ( Jen ) and John and my sister Christine. I also have an older brother Iain who emigrated to New Zealand ( has since returned ), just on the off chance thatanyone knows/remembers the family.

Hi I'm Carol and trying to spread the word in Glasgow as far as possible. So I'm looking for some help please folks. Hogmany 1965 and the night started in Curlers Bar. A party followed at Knightswood high flats. 9 months later I appeared and my birth father went to Drumchapel to birth mum Maureens door in Glenkirk Drive to discover I had just been given to a new family at a week old. Brian is just wee, only about 5'4". He had mid brown hair and was a smart dresser. A nice guy and handsome too. Dressed as a mod with the suit, shirt & tie, he had all the gear. When he came to Drumchapel he had on a really smart green duffel coat. My birth mum thinks that he was in a gang.

Last May I started a dedicated Facebook page to find Brian who I think is from the East End. I now know that Brian was a friend of George Harwood who lived in Barlanark. George was a Painter & Decorator and had served his apprenticeship at Andrew Gardiners on London Road. George hooked up with a bloke named Ernie Scally and for a really short time they were E&G Enterprises. Ernie provided the bucks and George managed the tradesmen to complete jobs, one being a hotel on Glassford Street. Joiners, Electricians, Plumbers and Painters. Brian my birth dad was one of them. George died years back and I have spoken to Ernie but he can't remember. It is a long time ago :(
George used to drink in the Beresford bar and dated the barman's daughter who I think was called Pat Garrety. George originally met Ernie whilst drinking in the Norsk bar. Does any of this ring any bells with anyone? Do you know anyone who may have worked with George at any point? Any tiny wee bit of information could actually be huge. Many many thanks :)

You can find me on Facebook Carol Wilson
